Alleged eight-foot cross found from Gaaf Alif uninhabited island

MALE, October 11 (HNS) – An eight-foot long item believed to be a cross was found from an uninhabited island near Gaaf Alif atoll Gemanafushi.
Gemanafushi Councillor Ali Ahmed said youths out for fishing found what appeared to look like a cross from “Kudafehela” uninhabited island, which was leased to Hussein Manik of Aage/Gemanafushi. A police investigation team is on the island, he added.
“It is a cross. But the lessee claims that it was an instrument used on speedboats. But I do not see another use of it,” Ahmed said.
The councillor stressed that Aage residents are pious people who pray regularly. The family travels to the island every holiday, he added.
“But I do not know their intention,” he said.
An Aage resident said it was part of a concrete car frame and was kept near the hut on the beach.
“It is not a cross and it would not even resemble a cross. It is a false claim made by MDP [ruling Maldivian Democratic Party] supporters to defame us,” the resident told Haveeru.
“Actually, it was made by my sibling to make a race car frame. Many items such as car wheels will be there inside the hut.”
Gemanafushi Police Station said a police investigation team travelled to the island. The police further confirmed that it looks “something like a cross.
